The first UK Young Artists event will take place in the Autumn of 2010. Artists who are selected to take part in this event could also be selected to represent the UK at the XV edition of the Biennale of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.

Work should be new and can be from any art form including visual arts, performing arts, literature, applied arts, film and fashion. Artists must be between 18 and 30 and be a UK citizen or have been resident in the UK for at least one year.

PANDA: Hosts Required for Workshops for Young People on Social Enterprise

I am one of the founders of the Commission for Youth Social Enterprise (www.yse.org.uk) our vision is to "equip future generations to make a lasting positive impact on their world". We promote social enterprise as a career option and using a specially commissioned DVD and guest speakers we take our workshop participants through the inspiring stories of 5 diverse young social entrepreneurs who combined their passions and skills to create an impact in their world.

Our aim is to take these workshops to schools, youth clubs/centres, universities and any other suitable venues in which young people hang out across the country, our objective is to introduce the participants to the world of social enterprise in an interactive manner. The workshops last between 90mins - 120mins. They include: introductions, a 30mins film, Q&A, followed by a short workshop to kick start the idea generation process...

are interested in hosting a session (we just need a venue and 10 participants ideally and we will sort out the rest.)

have any links to any places that you think would appreciate and benefit from the workshops.

We aim to deliver 10 sessions across England, these workshops are subsided by the Commission for Youth Social Enterprise but in the true spirit of social enterprise any contribution towards the cost of the sessions are most welcome.

PANDA: Casting Call for Three Actors (Unpaid)

North West based company Organised Chaos Productions are looking for 3 versatile and enthusiastic actors for a production of a new play written by Kim Wiltshire, Joy With Child. Actors must be Manchester/North West based.

Auditions – 21st March, 12-6pm at BBC, Manchester.

To start – End of March, rehearsing in the evening and weekends - we will work round schedules - until performance week which is the 16th - 19th of June at Taurus Bar, Canal Street, Manchester.

Please note: actors cannot be paid for this run, however, future performances will be done on profit share basis. We will be taking the show to other North West venues.

You will be asked to prepare a part of the script.

Corrinna – 50s-60s.
Older but glamorous. A bold and brassy has-been ‘it’ girl. RP accent and good comic timing essential. Must have ability to express a range of emotions. Mourning the loss of her late husband and is bitter towards her children.

Steven – 30s-40s.
Family man, caring and sensitive but a bit of a pushover. Looks after Corrinna and wants her to take an interest in his family, but she does not want to take any notice. His wife is the one who wears the trousers in their relationship.

David – 40s-50s.
Mysterious character who wants something that Corrina has. He is in search of the truth and wants to get to know their family as much as possible. There is an attraction between him and Corrinna, but this does not grow to anything more than a friendship.

We are pleased to invite applications to the latest round of the PANDA Rural Touring Mentoring Scheme in partnership with Cheshire's Rural Touring Network. This fantastic scheme offers mentorship to a performing arts company who would be keen to develop their work for rural touring.

This year there will be a 2 stage selection process:

Written application - deadline 12noon, Tuesday 16th March 2010.
Live pitch to Cheshire Rural Promoters - Wednesday 21st April 2010.

Are You Eligible to Apply?

We will use the following criteria to select applicants for the live pitching:

Application received by email or post by deadline stated.
Applicant current PANDA member and based in the North West.

Production available for touring Autumn 2010 or Spring 2011.

Pitching

Applicants who get through the written application stage will be invited to Cheshire to pitch to a group of managers and programmers of rural venues on Wednesday 21st April 2010.

Pitches will last approximately 15 minutes and are intended to give a flavour or impression of the quality, style and content of the proposed production/work. There will be a Q & A opportunity with the promoters immediately following and chance to receive direct feedback on the piece and its suitability for those venues represented, both in verbal and in written form.

Promoters are given the opportunity to select applicant/s they feel would be able to create and tour interesting, high quality work for their audiences with the support of the mentoring scheme.

What the Mentoring Scheme Offers

Black and Blue, Rural Touring Mentored Company 2006.

The selected mentored company will receive an understanding of the issues and contexts in which rural touring operates; including advice on marketing, pricing, administration, contracting, press and publicity, licensing, designing for small community spaces, technical considerations, artistic content and liaising with promoters. The menored company will also get specific advice from PANDA about how to add value to rural dates by combining them with additional dates at arts centres/studio theatres and/or educational work.

Various additional networking and learning opportunities will also be available - such as places on the National Rural Touring Conference, recommendations to other Rural Networks across the UK and cross-regional introductions.

Fees are offered for performances booked by a Cheshire Rural Touring Promoter.

Successful companies/artists will be required to pay back into the scheme at a later date - for example participating in mentoring, interviewing and evaluating for future schemes.

PANDA: Travel Bursary for European Research Visit

Want to expand your practice or professional development by working internationally?
Have an idea for project or collaboration in a particular European city?
Want to share your learning for the benefit of the PANDA and Leadership Lab networks?

We are now inviting applications for a PANDA member to lead on a research and development visit to a European city. The successful applicant will be awarded a travel bursary of up to £500 to visit their chosen city this summer, accompanied by a member of the PANDA team, and will share their learning on their return.

The travel bursary is provided by PANDA as part of Leadership Lab, an ambitious programme of leadership-themed events that embrace risk and creativity. Leadership Lab is a dynamic partnership between four North West based organisations – PANDA, GMMAZ (Greater Manchester Music Action Zone), Music Leader North West and Substance, funded by Cultural Leadership Programme.

What You Get

You will receive a travel bursary of up to £500 to cover travel, accomodation and expenses for a 3-5 day visit to a European city in July, August or September 2010.

The city you select must have a strong performing arts infrastructure so that it will also be of interest to other PANDA members interested in developing international links. Ideally you would already have some connections with the city, perhaps having visited or worked with people or companies from there before. However, you can apply to visit a city that you have no connection with to date, provided that you have a strong reason for choosing that particular place and are willing to do sufficient research before the visit takes place.

You will propose a research and development (R&D) project of your own design and lead on the delivery of the project before, during and after the trip. You will be accompanied on the visit by the PANDA Network Manager who will assist with your chosen project as well as completing additional research for the benefit of the PANDA membership.

What We Want From You

If you are selected to receive the travel bursary you must agree to the following conditions.

Before the visit:

To meet with representatives from PANDA and Leadership Lab to confirm the details of your R&D project, approve the budget for your travel bursary and develop a schedule for the visit.
To broker introductions with any existing contacts or to carry out research to identify new contacts and approach them prior to the visit.
To provide PANDA with evidence of your eligibility to travel freely to the destination country and a copy of sufficient travel insurance cover in your name.

During the visit:

To allocate an agreed amount of your time during the trip to working with the PANDA Network Manager making introductions to contacts and carrying out other research work.

After the visit:

To provide PANDA with any additional invoices and receipts for expenditure as required in order to reclaim the remainder of travel bursary.
To present the findings from the R&D visit at the Leadership Lab conference in October 2010. This would not necessarily have to be in the form of a traditional verbal presentation.
To work with PANDA to produce a resource pack about the European city visited for the use of the PANDA membership.

You would also be expected to contribute to the Leadership Lab network before, during and after the visit, for example, by blogging details of your preparations for the trip, uploading a daily diary of your experiences while in the city and updates on outcomes following your return.

Applications are invited from PANDA members working as artists, administrators, managers or in any other role in the independent performing arts sector in the North West who want to expand their practice or professional development by working internationally.

This year's festival marks a return to our founding principles - a commitment to premiere work by unknown and emerging playwrights. Beyond that, we are open to anything, and look forward to continuing our tradition of producing the work of writers from around the globe.

How to Submit Your Play

HighTide is open for play submissions for HighTide Festival 2011. You can submit online via the sign-up section on the HighTide website.

We are looking to fully produce and premiere new works by emerging playwrights. We welcome international scripts, written in English.

This fantastic annual event brings together over 200 young people from across Lancashire to take part in a two-day festival hosted at The Dukes Theatre, Lancaster. This year's event will feature two evenings of exciting new dance performances for the public, as well as a full day of skills workshops covering a range of dance and theatre techniques, dance in an urban environment and how to produce dance for camera. In addition, a hand-picked selection of short dance films will be shown throughout the weekend.

We are now seeking submissions of Live Performances and Dance for Camera pieces to be included in this event.

Last year we were overwhelmed by the quality and originality of the dance pieces. To preserve this high standard, this year we are focussing particularly on innovation and creativity. Details of the seventh round of the PANDA Rural Touring Mentoring Scheme, in partnership with Cheshire's Rural Touring Network have been announced.

New this year:

Artists and companies will have the opportunity to pitch your idea or performance piece to a group of rural touring promoters to gain feedback in addition to the opportunity to be selected as the mentored artist or company for 2010/11.
We are also seeking to link up with other Rural Touring Networks across the UK to work towards more sustainable rural touring for artists and companies.

The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Tuesday 16th March 2010.

The Scheme

2007 Rural Touring Mentoring Scheme company, Inky Fingers.

The scheme provides the mentored company with an understanding of the issues and contexts in which rural touring operates; including advice on marketing, pricing, administration, contracting, press and publicity, licensing, designing for small community spaces, technical considerations, artistic content and liaising with promoters.

The mentored company showcases their work-in-progress at CRTN's annual Promoters Day and attends the National Rural Touring Conference. The scheme culminates with the inclusion of the mentored company's show in the CRTN Autumn Menu for Rural Touring.

This excellent scheme is a valuable entry-point for any company wishing to establish themselves on the rural touring network.

The current mentored company is Deckchair who will be touring their production 'Life of a Failed Pop Star'.

PANDA and Nuffield Theatre are pleased to confirm the line up of guest speakers for the Panel Session at Spotlight On Next Steps for Performing Arts Graduates on Thursday 4th March 2010:

Matt Fenton is Director of the Public Arts at Lancaster University and will chair the discussion about how to make the transition from university into a career in the performing arts and the particular opportunities and constraints of the sector in today’s climate. Matt will share his insights into how to go about choosing your direction and deciding what to do next after your course finishes.
Alice Booth is the Creative Producer for Nuffield Theatre, and company member of imitating the dog. Having worked across the performing arts sector as an artist, arts manager and an academic, Alice has a wealth of experience to share with students and graduates, whether you are seeking employment, starting out as a creative practitioner, or both!
Richard Kingdom is Performance Programme Manager at The Bluecoat in Liverpool and Artistic Director of demonstrate, a visual theatre company. Richard will be discussing the opportunities currently available to emerging artists from the perspective of making work, running a platform festival and programming a venue.
Sam Stockdale is Associate Producer for Quarantine, Project co-ordinator for LANWest, the live art network for the region, and Producer at Levantes Dance Theatre. Sam graduated with a degree in Theatre Studies in 2005 from Lancaster University and after spending a month at the Edinburgh Fringe she finally got what her parents accepted as a "proper" job in the arts. Currently juggling three roles, but spending the majority of her time working with Quarantine, Sam will bring her own unique insight on what it’s really like to get a foot on the career ladder after graduation.

Anne-Marie Crowther is Director of PANDA and has over 20 years experience of management within the performing arts and also in the leisure, voluntary and commercial sectors. Anne-Marie has accreditation in coaching and is an experienced mentor and advisor, with particular expertise in the dance sector.

Matt Fenton – Director of the Public Arts at Lancaster University.

Matt is Director of the Public Arts at Lancaster University, which combines 3 major arts organisations: the Nuffield Theatre, The Peter Scott Gallery and Lancaster International Concert Series. A practising theatre director, Matt was previously Director of the Nuffield Theatre and scheme director of Lancaster University's MA in contemporary arts practice.

Matt will chair the discussion about how to make the transition from university into a career in the performing arts and the particular opportunities and constraints of the sector in today’s climate. In his teaching role, Matt has supported many graduates and post-graduates taking their first steps into work or starting out as an artist. He will share his insights into how to go about choosing your direction and deciding what to do next after your course finishes.

Alice Booth – Creative Producer at Nuffield Theatre; and company member, imitating the dog.

Alice works alongside Matt Fenton at Nuffield Theatre as the venue’s Creative Producer, working with participating artists to generate and deliver participatory projects, running the Nuffield New Works programme and Emerging Artists scheme, and providing advice and support to participating artists and companies. Alice is a founder member of performance company imitating the dog, and also works as a freelance performer/director and lecturer in contemporary performance.

The emphasis of the programme is on process although there will be performance opportunities or studio based sharings where appropriate.
