Kate Jablonska

My practice is centered on engaging people in my work; creating uplifting artworks to enhance the environment, installations which capture the beauty of colour and light and site- specific artworks designed for communities, service users, and health settings.
In my works I intend to capture movement, dynamism and transformation, to explore natural phenomena and chemistry between them, and to evoke the essence of life and encourage creative thinking.
Central to my practice is the experience from work I have done in conjunction with Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Lime Arts, King’s Fund, Unltd and Arts for Health at the MMU, which increased my wonder at the inherent power of colour.
The streams of light colour and transform my paintings made to installations. This explores the use of glass paints, transparency, the impact of colour, site and texture.
The small scale images in the books can be viewed more intimately, almost jewel like.
My works aim to reduce anxiety, encourage creative thinking and make people feel positive. Originally I developed this technique for a commission in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, which is an ongoing project at the moment, but knowing its potential I made it a part of my freelance creative practice.
The painting act itself is an unexpected dynamic process of fluid paint travelling on a plastic surface as a symbol of life, energy and nature. The flexible surface allows the paints to flow and mix with each other in a way that is dynamic and mysterious. The spontaneous nature of this process results in every image being unique. Considering the meaning, impact and use of colour my works derive from intensity of shades creating fascinating pieces that challenge viewers’ perception.
This process of painting is unexpected, dynamic and very exciting. It's a great fun for everyone. My aim is to introduce it to a wider public in different sizes, colours and forms by showing my paintings and books. I could also run an evening or weekend community workshop, if possible. I am happy to meet to show real samples of my work and discuss possible opportunities.
I am an experienced artist based in Manchester and working in Central Manchester University Hospitals, with a Fine Art background and high quality practice related to Arts and Wellbeing (http://www.artsforhealth.org/studen...). Skills from “Pathways into Arts and Health” and support from Clive Parkinson – Director of Arts fro Health at the MMU enabled me to successfully lead Arts & Health Project – Medicine: Below the Surface. A Poetic Introspection (http://www.artsforhealth.org/news/), an Exhibition in Education Campus in Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) since April 2010 and to became an UnLtd Millennium Award winner in 2010. With my postcards project I support CMFT Charity and collaborate with Brian Chapman – Director of Lime (http://www.limeart.org/) and Moira Walton – professional stylist (http://www.moirawalton.co.uk/). On creative consultation workshops in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital I explore the good, bad and ugly features of health environment and was commissioned to produce an artwork for one of the corridors exploring the colour blindness. I also support Patient Public Involvement Department on art sessions for patients. I am a member of North West Arts and Health Network (http://artsforhealthmmu.blogspot.co...), King’s Fund EHE Network, Matt Roberts and a board member of Creative Hands Foundation.
I’m keen to take on more projects, commissions, workshops and exhibitions.
