Contribute to the Arts Council Theatre Assessment
Arts Council England need your assistance with their latest consultation...
Help Arts Council England to assess the impact of their funding and environmental changes on theatre in England since 2002/03.
As a result of the 2000 Spending Review, Arts Council England was able to secure an additional £25 million of annual funding for theatre from 2003.
Five years on, Arts Council England has commissioned a study to identify the impact of that additional investment into the theatre sector and the changes that have taken place in audiences, theatre practice and other external influences.
This assessment will cover a wide range of theatre practice, for example text-based work, experimental theatre, physical theatre, puppetry, musical theatre, street arts and circus; building based and touring organisations, work for children and young people, including youth theatre, participatory theatre and diversity.
The Theatre Assessment website is now live and you can submit your contribution online at:
Or attend one of our open consultation meetings which are taking place in Manchester on 4 September, in London on 8 September and in Bristol on 1 October.
These meetings will be addressing a number of questions, looking at the last five years:
- what have been the major developments and changes in theatre? Have they improved or worsened the situation?
- in what ways have relationships between theatre organisations and locally based companies/artists, and theatre organisations and their local communities, changed?
- has there been more engagement with diversity and if so, what effect has this had on theatre and on audiences?
- in what ways have audiences and their expectations changed?
- what has been the impact of the Arts Council's Grants for the arts scheme, since it was introduced in 2003?
- what effect have economic and political changes or any other external interventions had on theatre?
