Marketing for Audience Development
With special guest speaker Heather Maitland.
Heather is an arts consultant and a Research Associate at the University of Warwick's Centre for Cultural Policy Studies. She has worked with around 100 arts organisations from the smallest of touring theatre companies to running the London end of the Royal Shakespeare Company's marketing operation, giving marketing advice, support and training, and has been director of two of the UK's national Arts Marketing Agencies.
She has written seven books on marketing and audience development for Arts Council England, including: Navigating difference: cultural diversity and audience development as well as the UK Arts Marketing Association's Marketing Manual.
Heather has run arts marketing and management courses all round the world, most recently in India, Japan, Zimbabwe and Malawi. She was both a tutor and Course Director of Druidstone the Essentials of Arts Marketing, a seven-day residential arts marketing programme run by Theatre Forum in 2006 and 2008.
Heather's current projects include profiling audiences for jazz, benchmarking audiences in the Republic of Ireland, supporting the team at Writers Centre Norwich and helping Rich Mix, London's foremost centre for culturally diverse arts to write a marketing strategy.
She has a particular interest in developing models for marketing, audience development and research that can be easily understood and implemented by individual artists, community-led groups and small, under-resourced arts organisations.
This should be a great Creative Conversation to end the 2009 series, so don't miss out!
