PANDA can now reveal the full details of our forthcoming fully-booked Spotlight On... event:

Spotlight On… Performing for Broadcast

Date: Wednesday 22nd October 2008, 6.30pm – 8.30pm.
Venue: BBC, Broadcasting House, Oxford Road, Manchester

This special Spotlight On event is free and open exclusively to PANDA members.

Participants will get the change to meet representatives from the BBC and Equity along with directors, casting agents and experienced actors to get expert advice on breaking into TV and radio.

Guest speakers for the event will be:

  • Liz O’ Neill, PANDA Director – Liz will chair the event and set out PANDA’s ambitions for further collaboration with the media industry.

  • Jamie Briers & Julie Fountain, Equity – Jamie and Julie will be giving advice on how to perfect your actors CV, networking in the industry, how the contracts work and ways of avoiding being exploited. They will also provide advice on how to present yourself in auditions and reveal tips on how to prepare for breaking into television.

  • Charlotte Riches & Sarah Kenny, BBC Radio Drama and BBC Writers’ Room North – Charlotte will be speaking about writing and performing in radio drama and briefly outlining the work of Writers’ Room North and their fantastic opportunities. Sarah will be talking about characterisation in radio and casting, giving you a sneaky peek into what casting agents look for in a radio actor.

  • Chris Corcoran, TV Director and Actor – Chris will give an insight into working in-front of the camera from a director’s point of view and will talk about the television industry’s expectations of performers and how to get your foot in the door.

  • Paul Newberry, Professional Actor – Paul will be giving his views on making the transition from theatre to screen performance. He will provide advice on the attitude to have in a media environment, how to present yourself and adjust your image to suit a role and which opportunities to grasp. After working with several casting agencies Paul will also be sharing his wisdom on this unique relationship and offering up some do’s and don’ts for developing your career.

After the event there will be an informal networking session in the BBC bar, including representatives from other industry organisations, including:

  • North West Vision and Media – find out more about their funding and training opportunities.

  • DNA Performance Resource – get details of their acting for camera workshop, raising your profile and the reality of becoming an actor for broadcast.

  • The Actors Group – find out about how they can support theatre and broadcast performers.

Venue: Unity Theatre, Liverpool.
Cost: Free, all welcome.

An event about regional support and rural touring opportunities in the North West in partnership with Cheshire Rural Touring Network, Hope Street and Unity Theatre.

The event will include the launch of the annual PANDA Rural Touring Mentoring Scheme, in association with Cheshire Rural Touring Network.
