Last few places available!

We are running this topical info and networking event in partnership with our partner venue, Contact and with Redeye, the photography network. As this is the first time we have done an event in collaboration with Redeye, we want to make the most of the opportunity for performing arts practitioners and photographers to learn from each other. So in addition to the panel discussion on the topic of Working for Free in the Arts, we are also running two short taster workshops afterwards, from 8.30pm – 9.30pm. The workshops are optional and there is no additional charge to attend.

Working for Free in the Arts Panel Session: 6.30pm – 8.30pm

A practical information session and discussion about the pros and cons of working for free in the arts. Find out more...

Meet the Photographer Workshop: 8.30pm – 9.30pm

The creative industries of the performing arts and photography are highly interdependent and yet often remain very separate. This is a great opportunity to learn from, and exchange with, your fellow artists from the world of photography.

Join photographer Ian Tilton for an informal question and answer session where you can find out:

  • Where you can find a suitable photographer.
  • How to choose the right person and build a good working relationship with them.
  • How much a photographer will charge and how they set their rates.
  • What to expect from a shoot, either for portfolio or performance shots.
  • How you can prepare for a shoot in order to produce the best results.

Presenting Yourself Workshop: 8.30pm – 9.30pm

An important skill for any creative practitioner is being able to network effectively so that you can develop useful relationships. For photographers, being able to present yourself and your work to potential clients and partners is an essential requirement, but one that is often a source of anxiety.

Janet Harrison from Creative Academy will lead a taster workshop on the art of communication designed especially for photographers. Discover how you can build your confidence to make new contacts and sell your services in a clear and natural way. You will also take away ideas for further exercises that you can do to practice and develop your newfound techniques.

Networking Session: 8.30pm onwards

Logo of Contact Lounge bar.Running alongside the workshops and continuing afterwards for those who have been taking part, we’ll be holding a festive social and networking session in the Contact Lounge bar.

Stay and chat with the guest speakers and new contacts from the Spotlight On panel event and workshop sessions and relax over a complimentary glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. The PANDA team will also be there to hear your ideas and suggestions for the Spotlight On programme next year.
