Running to Paradise
Running to Paradise is the new venture led by the acclaimed writer and director Cheryl Martin. They aim to create theatre of strong images and killer emotional through-lines allied to unforgettable visuals; to explore the kind of emotions that people pretend they don’t have.
Running to Paradise have three projects in the pipeline:
- Venus - By Suzan-Lori Parks. A fractured narrative with elements of freak show/carnival, anatomical dissection, musicals, lectures and 19th Century boulevard theatre.
- Aztecs - To be written by Cheryl. The piece will juxtapose two American empires, the Aztecs and the US, using the central metaphor of ritualised human sacrifice and centred on two Rites of Spring.
- Hen Nights - By Debi Dixon. A popular raunch-fest focused on a group of young black friends as they prepare to go out on a wild night in Manchester.
