I Hear Voices
The PANDA Producers Consortium recently booked the I Hear Voices tour for Contact Theatre.
"It was a joy to work with PANDA's efficient flexible tour booking service. A potentialy difficult schedule was managed efficiently and professionally. We are delighted with the results." John McGrath, Artistic Director, Contact.
A live literature performance combining spoken word, poetry and rap with movement and a live soundscap. Directed by Shabina Aslam and Leo Kay.
I Hear Voices is both a moving and humorous poetic enquiry into the voices we all hear in our heads. Are they a sign of madness or inspiration? A demon or a consolation?
Featuring Samira Arhin Acquaah, Ben Mellor and Martin Stannage, three exciting young spoken word artists from the Contact stable, merged with the live soundscape of Dan Steele and international beatboxer and DJ Jason Singh, I Hear Voices interweaves three narratives, ranging across characters from history who were inspired or tormented by voices, through to the self doubt and nightmarish visions created by modern-day urban paranoia.
Directed by BBC Radio producer Shabina Aslam and by dance theatre artist Leo Kay, I Hear Voices has moments of great momentum and physicality, as well as self-deprecating humour and humanity.
I Hear Voices was first presented at Lit Up, a showcase of new poetry, literature and spoken word, in September 2006 where it was met with great acclaim and is now available for touring in England for the first time.
