An extremely flexible and fully equipped performance space, the John Thaw Studio Theatre seats up to 150 and can be adapted to suit a wide variety of theatre presentations, including theatrical productions, experimental performance and music theatre.

The theatre is used for a diverse range of performances, rehearsals and workshops, and also as a venue for visiting professional companies and artists.

The Studio Theatre is managed by our dedicated and experienced technical staff, Karl Spencer (Technical Services Manager) Daniel Power (Drama Technican) and Andrew Davison (Music Technician).

The John Thaw Studio Theatre is named after the actor John Thaw in recognition of the generous support from The John Thaw Foundation.

PANDA Member Discount


Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama hereby agrees to provide the following offers for PANDA members:


  • First hour free on full day hire of John Thaw Studio for rehearsing / devising. Full day = 6 hours hire, so book 5 days, get a sixth free!
  • Free stewards with every hire of John Thaw Studio for performances.
  • Please note: Availability limited weekdays during University term time, more availability at weekends and during Easter, Summer and Christmas breaks.


To take advantage of this offer, PANDA members must quote ‘PANDA’ when making a phone booking or present their PANDA Membership card when making a booking in person.
